Cleavers, Commits, and Comrades

Introduction:

This is a rough blueprint of my final Silas deck for a Dunwitch Legacy campaign. It was a two player game and I was paired up with a Dexter Drake cluever. My goal was to be able to tank like crazy, pass skill checks with ease, and do reliable damage.

Table of Contents:

  • Overview

  • Main Strategy

  • Card Choices

  • Card Considerations

Overview:

Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆
Enemy Management: ★★★★☆
Clue-getting: ★☆☆☆☆
Encounter protection: ★★★☆☆
Survivability: ★★★★★
Economy: ★★★☆☆
Card Drawing: ★★★☆☆

Main Strategy:

  • Fish for Meat Cleaver as it is your only weapon.
  • Hover between two and three sanity, enabling both Meat Cleaver and Say Your Prayers.
  • Jessica Hyde and Peter Sylvestre reliably soak Spirit of Humanity.

Card Choices:

Meat Cleaver is reliably better than Machete in this deck as you will always be at either two or three sanity. However with Cherished Keepsake and Peter Sylvestre you'll effectively have much more, meaning you can tank enemies no matter what type of damage they deal. Say Your Prayers and Steadfast can give you big to protect you from those pesky treacheries. This humble 0xp weapon was able to do its job throughout the entire campaign, because of the deck's survivability you do not have to worry about things like evading and retaliate and can truck out a consistent 4-8 damage a turn.

Spirit of Humanity is here to put your survivability to good use when it is not needed, and can heal you in a pinch making you even harder to kill. Admittedly the deck doesn't do much with but it will help your teammates and Ancient Covenant is just more protection from the on top of the amazing Eucatastrophe. Eucatastrophe is especially good for Silas, as your will either net you two actions by retrieving Quick Thinking or tutor two cards from your graveyard by retrieving Resourceful.

True Survivor gets you back three innates which even disregarding the symbols they commit for should more than pay for itself. A Quick Thinking gets back your action, Resourceful gets back the card itself, Take Heart gets you economy.

Track Shoes gives you mobility, between itself and Peter Sylvestre you have 6 which reliably gets you extra movement, even without factoring in commits. Speaking of commits these also create a skill check that you can throw commits at to reliably proc their bonus effect, all the best effects have either or on them.

Say Your Prayers and Steadfast become especially potent when paired with a . Most won't have trouble getting lots of but it can help during setup or especially hard checks.

Say Your Prayers and Steadfast also become especially potent when paired with a . Most have one or two leaving them vulnerable to the encounter deck.

Brute Force is three damage. Makes killing odd hp enemies more efficient, can be fetched with both Resourceful and True Survivor, as well as your character ability. And can fill the gap if you are having trouble finding Meat Cleaver. Speaking of finding Cleaver, your odds of not seeing it in your opening hand assuming a full mulligan is 45%, and in that case your odds of then not seeing it in your discard pile after resolving Short Supply is 40%, combined that means your odds of not seeing it in your hand or discard right off the bat is less than 20%.

Card Considerations:

If you need to clue you have access to Sharp Vision, Desperate Search, Rise to the Occasion as well as the less flavorful Winging It and "Look what I found!".

If Meat Cleaver and Brute Force doesn't feel like enough consistency then you also have the options of Fire Axe and Improvised Weapon.

For more consistency in general two good options are Grisly Totem and Scrounge for Supplies. Grisly Totem makes Silas even better at committing to things and Scrounge gets back most cards in the deck, at the cost of an action.

Lucky! is generically great, but I wanted to over commit and not rely on events as it's more Silas' style.

For buffing stats outside of commits you can run Plucky and Scrapper, but I found that unflavorful and Plucky can be especially awkward to keep alive, though is easy to recur and can function as an additional sanity soak.

Alter Fate is a consideration if you know the campaign and know there is something especially brutal to target. And to relieve pressure from the encounter deck in general you could always run A Watchful Peace once you have the Spirit of Humanity combo in your deck. However both these cards are expensive in terms of experience.

Charisma the second is definitely a consideration if you get a suite of good campaign allies as I did in my run.

Key of Ys is crazy, even with the +5xp taboo. And in this deck we have four cards already that can reliably stack it as well as cards that can reliably soak for it (including Cherished Keepsake if you pick up Relic Hunter).

Drawing Thin is great here if you feel like you need better econ.

Silas should remain shirtless, so definitely do not equip body armor at any point.

Thanks for using my template, and I appreciate your deck! It's not flashy but it sure looks reliable. Congrats!
