Until you realize the auto-fail is also a symbol this sounds like an amazingly good card. The insanely increased odds to just fail the test, no matter how many Ritual Candles you pack, make this card hard to play, I'd argue.

But who knows, maybe you don't wanna pass the test (survivor tech, anyone?), or just fire Agatha Crane's ability, or have Seal of the Seventh Sign out (although it won't last long if you play this card)...

EDIT - Fun fact: In theory, you could be stuck in an endless loop if you put Katarina Sojka together with Seal of the Seventh Sign and people sealing the other symbols via Protective Incantation, The Chthonian Stone, The Chthonian Stone, Bulwark, Crystalline Elder Sign, Day of Reckoning, Dial of Ancients, Serpents of Yig, Sign of Xelotaph, The Codex of Ages, and/or Unrelenting. This is also a great example why knowledge should be made easily accessible to the players in any game - because I am not even sure if being stuck in an endless loop counts as "having the potential to change the game state" and therefore would allow triggering Katarina's reaction ability or not. Yeah, the chaos bag is not endless, but it is at least undefined, if not an unreachable state. So what happens when you do this?

I want to share a light onto this card, during a session I played lately, a friend of mine pulled out this combo that made me realize this card is more than meet the eyes:

He plays Charlie Kane, classes were Guardian and Mystic, constantly ready Venturer to bump ammo into his .32 Colt (return to hand by Calling in Favors then play again through Motivational Speech)

Then he plays Eat Lead! lv2 spent 17 ammo, and at the 16th token, he triggered Katarina to reveal another 5 tokens. The guy almost pulled out the entire chaos bags.

Why you ask? so he can see all 10 curse tokens, followed by Drawn Star to deal 10 DMG straight to the boss's face.

Now it was a three player game so the boss is not dead yet, but that 10 DMG was quite shocking, while I don't think his combo was the best highlight of Katarina, there definitely more to her than just passing the test

I do wonder - how does she interact with The Wicked Witch?

If I first use Katarina and then subsequently use Witch on the token Katharina pulls, do I fish for 4 symbols to eventually use 2 of them? Might make a horiffically efficient way to pull Elder Signs. And even nicer way to find Skulls for Song of the Dead, particularly for Jim. Also might make fishing for 2 matching symbols for Breath of the Sleeper or Eyes of the Dreamer fairly feasible.

That makes hell of a combo or I got too excited too easily? There are quite a few mystics with solid Elder Signs.

Also some can take the combo off class, notably Sister Mary and Sefina Rousseau

Overall Katarina is probably a guaranteed include in any Curse or Blurse decks I'd make

I didn't quite manage to get a completely satisfying setup however if you seal most symbol tokens (probably don't seal the Elder Sign but it is an option) but the Skull you could use Katarina to reliably trigger Speak to the Dead which in turn can be used to bring back Call the Beyond which helps keeping Dayana or Seal of the Seventh Sign charged for example. Other good candidates are Blur and Close the Circle but Akachi has Spirit-Speaker so she could already charge them quite easily

The problem is there's no permanently reliable way to bring back SttD but you could at least do so twice with Uncage the Soul. Spamming CtB a lot would also add a lot of curses. I don't think Katarina and Favor of the Moon in this setup have a great synergy but it's still good enough to deserve an honorable mention. It helps keeping the curses in check, actually pays you and lets you gamble for your Elder Sign when you don't want to use SttD.

One option would be to use Dexter Drake and use Katarina to trigger his Elder Sign more often and bring back SttD that way but unlike Akachi Onyele, Dexter doesn't have access to Dial of Ancients it could however be traded with Teamwork. Dayana -> Recharge -> Use Call the Beyond on Dayana or the Dial could keep quite a big amount of the chaos bag sealed with just one trinket. Akachi's increased charge limit also generally makes her a better candidate for CtB

Also SttD can be used together with Sign Magick and Astral Mirror to reduce the action cost while not taking up as many slots.

Lastly you can use Katarina to try to bait out the Auto-fail on turns that are less dangerous to seal it on Dial of Ancients. Dayana but you'll still fail your check so that's only marginally useful.
