Alessandra the Goon, Flirting and Fighting [Final Version]

Alessandra-meme.png

Introduction

This is the final version of the deck, and this is the one that works the best even in true solo. This deck is more than competent to deal with enemies thanks to the British Bull Dog and the different Parley events like String of Curses, Stir the Pot, Backstab and even Vamp, and even that I was convinced that Eyes of Valusia was a Carson exclusive card, having +1 to all skills on your free action and accumulating charges for later burst damage is not that bad.

Clue-getting: ★★★☆☆
Encounter protection: ★★☆☆☆
Survivability: ★★☆☆☆
Economy: ★★★☆☆
Card Drawing: ★★☆☆☆

Main Strategy:

Mulligan hard for Fine Clothes and the British Bull Dog. If you don’t have any of them in your opening hand, keep the Lucky Cigarette Case or Friends in Low Places to draw it as soon as possible.

Once you have it in hand, you have a Sleight of Hand on your Bewitching ready.

What to put under Bewitching? I think that the best options are Beguile, Stir the Pot and Sleight of Hand.

Bewitching offers a dilemma, do I draw the card I need, or do I search for a copy on the deck? In my opinion, it depends on the situation. I would only draw from Bewitching if the situation is dire and you know there are not many copies of the attached cards on the deck, otherwise, I would always search the deck. That way you thin the deck even more, and it is not unusual to find a copy of Beguile.

This deck allows you to deal with enemies in very different ways:

  • Beguile for either non threatening enemies that you can move around or hunter enemies that will follow you picking up clues that you are not picking up. You can also Beguile aloof enemies that don’t generate much trouble.

  • Aloof enemies with doom? Vamp the doom out of them.

  • British Bull Dog for annoying enemies that need dispatching.

  • Stir the Pot is a star in this deck when dealing with bunched up enemies. And it affects aloof enemies too.

  • No enemies? No problem, you have the stats to investigate easy locations. High shroud? no problem either, make sure you have a beguiled enemy around that can investigate for you and that you are wearing fine clothes. That’s a -2 to that shroud’s location.

Other Cards:

Bianca "Die Katz": She has her home in Alessandra, so we might as well use her. How hard we want to push her will depend on having the British Bull Dog in hand in case we fail, or if we have Backstab.

Backstab: Its main purpose is to deal with Zamacona or evil Bianca "Die Katz".

Friends in Low Places: We heavily rely on our item assets, so it is helpful to have this on the deck.

Vamp: Vamp is the real deal, but on the meantime we can still use it for the damage, the evade or even removing the doom.

Eyes of Valusia: This card is kind of a luxury upgrade and it is very janky, but, when it works, it really works. At its finest you could deal 16 damage in one turn with 8 per attack. At its normal, you can take 3 actions to get charges on an enemy and deal 4 damage to it. It works more like the second instance most of the time if you play true solo, but with a higher player count you could be getting charges more reliably. Biggest problem with this card is that you cannot get charges from Zamacona, and that has been a problem more than once for me.

Eldritch Tongue: You might want to have 2 copies, but I think that with one off, is more than enough. Is it not only that recurring is very strong but, in the late game, when you have used most of your events, you can choose at will from your discard pile. Great combo with this is playing a String of Curses and immediately playing it again to get rid of a beefy non-elite.

Make Your Own Deck!

You can build this deck however you want and here are some alternative options:

  • Grizzled: Good if you know what you might expect from the campaing, but it is less useful on our 0-difficulty tests.
  • Persuasion: Good way to discard an enemy but I prefer Existential Riddle because it creates a perfect target to Beguile
  • Ornate Bow: If you don't feel like running Eyes of Valusia, you can always include a copy of the bow, Alessandra has the stats to make it work and honestly it costs less xp than the Eyes
  • Gené Beauregard: Super expensive ally, ultra luxury but it synergises really well with Beguile making Alessandra a full area control investigator
  • Cat Burglar: +1 and a built in ejection button.
  • Leo De Luca: Free parley action and free action? I mean, we all know Leo.
  • Snitch: If you want to pull more weight on the cluevering side, this upgrade is ideal. It triggers with a fairly amount of cards in the deck.

What is the plan with Sleight of Hand? Get Bulldog's in, fire them off, and then return to hand to reset them?

@Coshuda Exactly that, there are not many weapons on this deck so having Sleight of hand helps with another round of the British Bulldog

Where does this deck get its clues from? Just her base 4 book?

@Chappykinz The deck is not built to for Alessandra to be the main cluever but can pull some weight with Vamp, Kicking the Hornet's Nest, String of Curses and specially (and my favourite) Beguile enemy + Fine Clothes. With the latter, you will be investigating at 0 quite often.
