SPOILER ALERT!!! IN DEPTH SPOILERS!!! RUN AWAY!!!

I took this deck solo through Dunwich.

The strategy is of course to invent Strange Solution and add Disc of Itzamna as soon as possible, to make Rex capable of handling enemies. And believe me, there's nothing as satisfying as discarding Avian Thrall or Lupine Thrall with the Disc. I hate those two buggers. The other part of the strategy is really obvious - sucking clues like a Super Power Hoovermatic 2020. And when you're solo, you don't really need Deduction to do it. It's in fact a dead card most of the time.

The initial plan was to get to the maximum of positive resolutions, that would include rescuing Peter Clover and bringing Silas Bishop back to normal with The Necronomicon. Unfortunately both we're not in store for me. I needed maybe 1 additional action to handle the casino properly. It was actually quite fun to plan ahead full 2 turns standing at the edge of resigning... and then finally saying "Oh, screw you Peter, you're a gangsta and I'm lawful neutral... au revoir!". BTW I have no idea how to pull this resolution off without Elusive). Anyone made it? And of course I needed the cursed book in my hand to help our poor boy Silas. Sadly the book decided to hide at the bottom of the stack. Now that I'm thinking of it, I could possibly sacrifice 1 XP point to add the tome drawing ally just for this specific scenario.

I think I managed to kill 2 Brood of Yog-Sothoth in the infamous Brood scenario, which was by the way a full display of control, that this kind of deck can pull off. Steady decissions all the time, waiting for the right "constellation" of wandering broods, to take it down in one turn. I was quite unlucky with poor encounter draws (One of the Broods was 4 health very quickly) and if this would not be the case, I'd have a fair chance of taking down a third Brood. Other than that I never felt threatened for the whole time.

That changed a tiny bit when I moved to the penultimate scenario. That is always the most nervous of all Dunwich scenarios, since it's really possible to end your story here. Add all kinds of thralls on top of it and it's really nightmarish. I do remember one power move that happened there. I left one Avian Thrall on twisted paths, evading him, sucking the clue then moving with Pathfinder to the main path just to slay the Devotee of the Key with poison, before it carried his 2 puny doom tokens to the peak. I really felt in control there. On the flip side, I did cheat on the hill once. There was a moment when I was evading the puny Thrall and failed miserably due to bad chaos pull. Then I checked my hand and wandered why I even wanted to risk, if I had Elusive on my hand and really enough resources, both cards and money, to not give a damn about it. That would most likely cost me the game if I did not revert it. I feel sorry for that but I think that Cthulhu also feels sorry for at least a few tentacles during the course of campaign, that I happened to pull when spraying precious poison on enemies.

Final scenario was really a bliss on the other hand. Carcosa expansion got into my hands right on time to provide me with an option to include In the Know in the deck. Playing Lost in Time and Space with it is almost like cheating. Altough I do wonder, if Rex super power is sucking an additional clue from the location I'm in right now or the location I'm investigating from afar? Any clues? Not the Arkham clues, since Rex has plenty of them. Rather a clue on a question that deserves a FAQ entry. Let me know in the comments, if you feel competent.

One final comment - you may wonder if Higher Education is the thing or rather a blank card that wastes XP. Well... I used it maybe once. Mostly due to the fact that keeping a 5 card hand means you're not playing it. And it's a card game, you know? But boy! I really liked the fact that I could bump that Willpower this one time. So don't include it boys and gals. You'll feel sorry this one time. Who knows, maybe it will cost you the the campaign :)Hyperawareness on the other hand rules, divides and conquers on both important fronts. That is evading and power sucking. That's why you should never ever play a Rex deck without Dr. Milan Christopher. Just stating the obvious.

Take care.

My next goal? Solo hard Night Of The Zealot with one of the new powerhouse investigators. Mark Harrigan or Minh Thi Phan I think :)

Hi @Onetribe! Nice write-up, i enjoyed reading of your deeds!

To answer 2 of your questions: If you want to rescue Peter C. in the casino, think about including "I'm outta here!". You need to have explored the backyard before, but that shouldn't be too hard.

And i think the Rex + In the Know interaction is as follows: You gather one clue from the distant location and one from the location Rex is standing on ("your location" sounds pretty obvious to me).

Onetribe, i was wrong with In the Know, i wrote to FFG, here's Matt's answer:

Greetings,

In the Know works a little differently from some other investigation cards (like Seeking Answers for example). Instead of just saying that you discover clues at a different location, it reads "Investigate any revealed location in play as if you were at that location” (emphasis mine). That means any clues you would discover “at your location” as part of this investigation are discovered at the location you are investigating with In the Know. So Rex’s bonus clue or any other additional clues from Deduction, etc, would all be taken from the location you chose when you used In the Know.

Cheers,

@SynisillThanks a lot for clearing this out. Good that you added that to the card page also. Cheers.

I am hoping to read more of Rex in the future, keep up the good work!

Seeing as the Lupine Thrall always spawns as far away from you as he can, it should never be possible to use the disc on him in solo play.

That's unfortunate... It is indeed possible that out of sheer excitement ("Hah! I got ya! Eat the disc!") I did that misplay.
