The power of Stella is action compression. You will find that she is the fastest cluer straight out of the gate. Any combination of her cards will make her get clues immediately. In one turn, she can use Live and Learn and "Look what I found!" to turn a failed investigation into 3 clues with 3 actions remaining.
Mulligan - You will be searching for the following:
This is already a good portion of your deck. If you hit the other cards, that means that these cards are coming up in your draws. Do not afraid to take risky tests and fail. You always have a free action to fail.
Staple cards:
- Live and Learn - This card is a Lucky! that allows Stella to trigger her passive and succeed the test in the same action. Lucky! is generally considered a better card, but with Stella, you need a test to fail.
- Granny Orne - This upgraded card allows you to test riskily and either make it easier to use "Look what I found!".
- Rabbit's Foot - Base rabbit's foot is a great draw engine for your deck. Upgraded rabbit's foot is overkill and not worth the experience to get. You already have At a Crossroads, Nothing Left to Lose, and Take Heart for your draw engine!
- "Look what I found!" - Clueing while failing. Fast clues. Overpowered card. Almost guaranteed success on 2 shroud or lower, 3 shroud with Matchbox or Granny Orne, 4 shroud with Flashlight. 5, 6, 7 shroud with a combination of these cards and Lucky!. Upgraded card is overkill and will make the card more difficult to use.
Strong Cards:
- Take Heart - Powerful draw engine and resource card on a character that loves failing.
- Resourceful - Powerful recurring card that allows you to tap into cards you need whenever you need it.
- Sharp Vision - Card you want to succeed with, generally used in conjunction with Live and Learn when there are more than one clues left on the location.
- Unexpected Courage - Powerful card with Stella. You can use it to take risky tests to trigger your ability. Passing is great, failing will return the card for future use.
Niche and replaceable cards:
- Old Keyring - Usually used to grab some extra clues and make the deck more reliable. Unless you are planning to upgrade this card, it is not necessary to the deck.
- Matchbox - This is a setup card that will make your life easier. A proactive card has a hard time finding a home in a reaction-based deck.
- Manual Dexterity - The card will save your life since 4 is a low number for base evade. This card is not necessary but taking it out will stress the more valuable cards in your deck.
- Dumb Luck - Situational card that improves your survivability. Great icons as well.
Signature + Mandatory Cards:
Neither Rain nor Snow is a very powerful card used to boost your checks, but I find it most powerful on your teammate checks. This can save their life or yours based on which tests you may use it on. You can also use the card as a tempo card.
Called by the Mists - is inconvenient weakness but will generally do nothing since you have the health pool to tank multiple hits from this weakness. Most of the time you can ignore this weakness until you can safely discard it.
Nothing Left to Lose is an extremely powerful refill card that will allow you to blow through cards quickly. I would say, one copy is a mandatory in the deck and should be picked up as soon as you can. Two copies is overkill and takes away from necessary cards. However, if you want to play a quick cycle deck, I recommend 2 copies.
Side Deck:
Let's talk about the side deck! These cards are very powerful under the right circumstances. I extremely recommend using these cards when you get a chance to. Brute Force is your ticket to help your goon out with fights. Generally, they will be having a harder time with 3 health enemies than with 2 health or 4 health enemies. But let's not get carried away.
The reason that you will be using these cards is mainly due to your team composition and scenario demands. Your core deck is more than able to handle each scenario work with each player. However, you will encounter anti-synergy with different characters. Imagine trying to fail with a Sister Mary on your team adding blesses every turn. You have less predictability and will get throttled by the bless tokens. Switching Granny Orne with Jacob Morrison and adding Favor of the Sun will make your deck not only more consistent, but shine in the face of anti-synergy.
This is the bless anti-synergy counter. Below are situations to watch out for:
- Bless Anti-Synergy - See above.
- Curse Anti-Synergy - Test at 0. Old Keyring and Scavenging
- Scenarios with high shrouds - Grisly Totem Icons
- Scenarios with large amount of clues - Gift of Nodens Recursion
- Scenarios that deal heavy damage - Peter Sylvestre and Jessica Hyde with Charisma
- Long scenarios - Second copy of Nothing Left to Lose and Emergency Cache to refill.
