As someone who has a preference for Survivors, I’m ashamed to admit I’ve barely ever played Wendy. Once to teach a new player and once in the semi-campaign Dream Eaters.

So I’ve tried out various builds and kept tweaking things until I finally had some success. Things that didn’t end up working were Leo De Luca, Sleight of Hand, Short Rest, Small Favor, and Think on Your Feet.

For the campaign starter remove the experience cards and put in the Side Deck cards.

Some non-obvious card selections worth mentioning:

  • Track Shoes is a standout card. It uses the obscure footwear slot. It’s a static bonus that works with evasion, the Bull Dog, and the Lockpicks. But most importantly it lets you gain extra move actions and evade all enemies at a location. It’s hard to overstate how powerful that is during The Devourer Below, both rushing to the next Arkham Woods and bypassing cultists guarding the Main Path ahead of the Ritual Site.

  • Coup de Grâce is testless damage and a cantrip. Great to finish off an odd-health enemy, Swarm of Rats, or the ubiquitous Acolytes.

  • Long Shot can deal damage via an evasion, another way to deal with pesky Acolytes

  • Ethereal Slip is incredible and possibly worth running two copies. Not because you’ll play both but because you always want one in hand and you can toss a duplicate to re-pull a token. It can do incredibly cool stuff. When you need to kill a doom-generating Wizard a few locations away but just drew a Ravenous Ghoul, just swap them. Need to finish off "Wolf-Man" Drew but it’s almost midnight? Just swap with the Hunting Nightgaunt that won’t reach you by the time you resign.

  • Perception ended up replacing a couple of Flashlights. The number of clues needed in true solo is low, and flashlights are slow and expensive. Plus there are several tests like parleys and False Lead that aren’t investigations but can benefit from the skill.

  • Pocket Telescope was added mid-campaign to scout the various Arkham Woods but I didn’t have enough time to even play it. Jury remains out on that, feel free to play anything there.

Anyhow, give it a spin if you want to experiment with a very challenging game but a very fun, rewarding investigator!

also: I’m planning to run this build through Dunwich Legacy. I’ll see whether Coup de Grace is as effective on Whippoorwills, and how effective Waylay is on the various abominations.
