Ladies and gentlemen, now for the first time, here's "The Synergy" by none other than Sefina Rousseau! No flash photography please.

This is something I've wanted to put together since I saw the new synergy trait cards. But I was missing a key piece until now. Here's what's going on with this deck:

Black Market

This card is simply amazing. Sefina can also copy it with The Painted World for even more awesomeness. And when you get Double, Double later, it will not only enable your magical christmas land engine setup, it will also enable your friends' setups too!

But what if you don't draw Black Market in your opening hand?

Such is the Rogue life, chasing the high roll. Deck will slow down a bit. But this deck interrogated 5 cultist in True Solo when it didn't start with a Black Market, so I know it still works.

Piloting and early choices

Since you cannot mulligan, the only choice you can make is about what to put under Sefina.

If you have a The Painted World in hand: Put Black Market and your econ events in there.

If you don't: Don't put Black Market there. If you have multiple econ events, save few in hand and put the rest there.

You want to play your The Painted Worlds proactively, so don't put Deny Existence and Ward of Protection under Sefina, if you have a choice.

Try to get some resources a bit, then play Black Market ASAP. Try to find key assets. If you miss, try to play as much cards from there as you can. Your first BM will only draw from your deck. Be selfish, just like you should be with Faustian Bargain.

Cards from Black Market gets back into your deck at the start of the next investigation phase. Since you can play Black Market at the same timing, you can play your second BM if you drew it with the first one. You can also copy a BM with your signature in the same manner.

Then abuse free actions from Close the Circle and Eon Chart, play your powerful events when it's efficient.

Why is this card in the deck?

Scroll of Secrets: Filtered card draw (you hate Stars of Hyades), and is a seeker/mystic class card. Seeker is probably the strongest part of the Call for Backup.

Brand of Cthugha: Amazing combat option, and Guardian class card.

Close the Circle: Probably the strongest synergy card.

Eon Chart: Mostly 3 use Pathfinder. Another Seeker synergy card. This deck doesn't want Lucky Cigarette Case or other Rogue accessories, until The Red Clock. Then you can replace it.

Dario El-Amin: Only Rogue ally which boosts . His action comes into play from time to time.

Antiquary: This is actually a money engine. Your money events are Favors, your Rogue exceptionals are usually Relics, sometimes Rituals in the case of Double, Double. However this can also skill boost tests taken with Close the Circle, apart from paying it.

Unscrupulous Loan: Instant resource pool for Well Connected and Dario El-Amin.

Well Connected: Trivialize one test per turn. Even when you are at around 10 resources, it's a free Unexpected Courage per turn.

Black Market: Setup, now!

Call for Backup: The strongest parts are Guardian and Seeker, then Rogue, then Mystic and Survivor imo. But it's not that uncommon to utilize all parts of it late game.

Cheat the System: Cheaper Hot Streak. This can give 5 resources without spending an action, almost Hot Streak efficiency (7 resources with an action). However this costs 3 xp less.

Deny Existence: Auto-take card for me, if I have access to it.

Ethereal Form: One of the first things to cut to be honest.

Faustian Bargain: Best econ option at 0 xp.

Intel Report: If you are playing true solo or 2p, this card can give you lots of action efficiency, provided you have the money.

Quantum Flux: Mostly to shuffle your powerful events back in. You can go Parallel Fates, Foresight route to discard your weakness and cycle your deck instead. Scroll of Secrets also helps with this.

Read the Signs: Another powerful investigation event. If you have Dario up and running, you will investigate at 8 without anything else. You'll also ignore the location effects which is pretty good sometimes.

Scout Ahead: Nice to have, can take something else instead of it.

Spectral Razor: Powerful combat event, but I'd support the test with some commits or Well Connected.

Ward of Protection: Like Deny Existence, if I can take it, I do.

Upgrades

This deck is at 19 + 3 (In the Thick of It xp) at this moment. I'd make the upgrades linked in the Side Deck in this order:

Call for Backup > Geas > Double, Double > The Black Fan > The Red Clock > Another Day, Another Dollar

Throw a Four of Cups somewhere in there when you have the spare 1 xp.

I'd cut these cards in this order:

Ethereal Form > Quantum Flux > Scout Ahead > Eon Chart > Spectral Razor.

You can also replace Dario with a better ally, after you get Geas and The Black Fan.

Both orders obviously also depends on your team composition.

Other good stuff

Sure Gamble, The Skeleton Key, Counterespionage, The Gold Pocket Watch, Easy Mark.

What about 0 xp version?

Something like this

Get Black Market > Cheat the System > Close the Circle > Unscrupulous Loan > Antiquary > Call for Backup

Thanks for sharing. I basically play the asset version of this with Dexter. Same strategy of using Black Market and Cheat the System for great value. Never thought of using it for events with Sefina though. Great job!
