So I've seen a lot of people talking about this with Jim or this with a effect where you want a symbol like sixth sense and those are fair "wants" for curse of aeons but I'd like to bring a different approach I've not seen discussed about it.

Capping the bag.

When there are curses in the chaos bag the number you can draw is anywhere from +1 to -far too much, if you have three curses in the bad and a -4 then in that instance you can draw anything from +1 to -10, with some math's and programs you can figure out the odds, but the possibility is always there for super insane pulls where you draw 3+ curses.

Not so with curse of Aeons in play, how many curses are in the bag? irrelevant!, the worst draw you can pull from the bag is now always -2 AND the worst token in the bag, in the above example even with 10 curses in the bag you can only draw a -6, which as a mystic is not that hard to overcome with commits, rogues also will find a -6 beatable if they HAVE to pass.

What Curse of Aeons does is allows more reliability with the "uhoh all curses" table, sure blessing of Isis is cool in its own way but just knowing that even with a whole ton of curses floating about there is now a non insane number you can match to succeed at any test is very liberating.

And like with such classics as lucky, curse of aeons need never actually trigger once to still be useful, did you go an entire game and never trigger its effect with a curse heavy bag, well 3 xp and 2 resources to not suffer for high cursed bags seems A-Okay to me.

O scratch that, I just drew a crit fail....

Well that’s why Jim plays the blues. — MrGoldbee · 1443
Thanks, that is an interesting perspective on this card. I still think 3xp is pretty rough but hopefully it finds a place. — housh · 176
So it has a function similar to the one of Ancient Coveant, right ? Avoiding to draw all the tokens at once. — AlexP · 248
It's a bummer, it is not a permanent, unlike the Covenants. 4 XP more (to get 2 copies), 2 resources, a card and a playaction to pay, that's quite a lot in comparison. — Susumu · 363
Maybe as a covenant? — MrGoldbee · 1443

It seems that Curse of Aeon helps you to find for Sixth Sense, or Song of the Dead. However, this card is too hard to utilize with thoes cards. What's problem?

First, it's hard to succeed with + . In general, token has -1/-2 modifier at the beginning of the game, and -4 modifier at the end of the game, in standard difficulty. It means that you need to test with +4 or higher at the beginning, or +6 or higher at the end.

Second, the probability is too low. You could check the probability in my review of Blessing of Isis; the probability of triggering with 10 bag is about 14% if no additional ability is used. Olive significantly increases the probability of triggering. However, you should resolve ++"one additional token" if you trigger Olive. For Blessing of Isis, your + could nullify additional token, whereas Curse of Aeon doesn't.

Of course, there are some advantages of this card:

  • Jim's is 0, so that he doesn't care about . His + = -2, and his Olive is just -2 + "one additional token".
  • Curse of Aeon can cap your chaos bag with lots of token; check the other review.
  • Curse of Aeon decreases probability. You can stop revealing tokens with 2 . It gives additional chance not to reveal if you can overcome +.

I think if you're running this you're basically required to pair it with Favor of the Moon to force the trigger after you draw the first curse. If you're playing Jim that means the first curse you draw in a round becomes a flat -2 plus a pity dollar, which is pretty good. Moreso in a multiplayer game where Favor lets you reduce the impact of your curses on the other investigators.

It further synergizes with Song of the Dead to force a cheap +2 damage off any or , making the combo a more reliable Armageddon. And if you want to go all in, adding Nkosi Mabati lets you also hit on any symbol short of the .

Is that worth 4 cards totaling $9 and 9xp, three of which aren't spells and so can't easily be tutored, and none of which can benefit from Arcane Research or Down the Rabbit Hole? Probably not, but it's more interesting than Shrivelling.

I honestly don't get, why all of the Covenants are Permanents, and this card, which works kind like a niche Covenant, and costs even 1 XP more, is not. — Susumu · 363
because this is a mirror-image counterpart to Blessing of Isis, and Mystic and Guardian both already had covenants — Thatwasademo · 57
I didn't meant to say, it should have got the Covenant trait. But it seems odd to me, that it has a weaker effect than most Covenants, cost 1 XP more (or effectively 4, if you want two copies, to actually find it), and is not a Permanent, so in addition to the inconsistency, needs an action and resources to play. — Susumu · 363
