The idea of this deck is as follows:
- 2x Cryptic Grimoire would give 2 secrets per curse revealed, effectively giving a discount and fast on an insight action per curse revealed.
- Many insight actions have built-in actions on them. For example, if you play Seeking Answers (for free!), you perform another skill test, which may reveal a curse and refund the two secrets
- If you do not need to succeed, you can hedge the Empirical Hypothesis fail condition to replace the card you lost and trigger Olive or Katarina to play a card discarded with Forced Learning instead.
- Many XP cheap events can be played as actions to load up on curses before unloading; Cryptic Grimoire can 'stock up' secrets to no limit, so you can unload for a rogue-like turn after loading up the curse deck to optimize the chaining. Combine with Accursed to get all of the benefits with none of the drawbacks, while emptying the curse pile for your teammates.
- Higher Learning (permanent) can be used to leverage checks you need to succeed.
- Filtering out non-test cards can promote the chaining function when the deck gets going.
- Glimpse the Void can increase your chances of drawing curses to make the deck recursive!
Weaknesses:
- No fighting power. This is why the deck is listed as multiplayer; however, insights with fight or evade actions could be added to trigger the grimoire as well.
- Does it actually work? Only investigating with Intellect 4 seems weak. I still need to playtest this but I love the idea of it.
