Looking at a weird build for Ashcan Pete to play standalones with. Flex leaning towards clues. Can actually work well in supporting roles as well with all the skills that you can commit to other players if needed.
Plan is to take 2 mental trauma from ITTOI so all the Desperate skills are active. These serve double duty with Yaotl so don't have to rely only on Duke to get checks done. Forced Learning really tips things off getting more consistent draws and another reliable way to stack the discard pile for Yaotl. You Handle This One! and A Test of Will give some extra insurance from mythos, as well as Pete Sylvestre. A wild deck to pilot, but should make for a good time. ;)

So it is my understanding looking at the FAQ and errata that ITTOI doesn't count towards XP threshold for weaknesses, much like the bonus XP that Father Mateo naturally gets. So 9 XP without is still only the one weakness. I think magnifying glass is a compelling option for sure, and I certainly don't have any hand slots competing. My thoughts on Deduction were that as a flex in multiplayer exclusively, the Cluever would be responsible for consistently getting clues while this deck would be focusing on making the most of less investigation actions. So Deduction giving 2 clues on a single success has more weight than single clues more often, at least in the context I'm thinking this deck pilots within the team. May play and discover I am wrong on both counts. But that's part of the fun. |
Jan 26, 2025Your understanding of how In the Thick of It works is completely correct! You currently have 13xp in your deck, which means 10xp without ITTOI, which means 2 basic weaknesses. You need to drop one more XP to get to a single basic weakness. :-) |

It is supposed to be 12 total XP. So probably drop a Test of Will to 0 XP. |
Jan 26, 2025No worries! We were able to figure it out together in the end. :-) I think you're right about the best way to remove 1xp with minimal disruption to your core idea. |
If I'm reading this correctly, you're using 10 xp + 3 from In the Thick of It, which means you should have a second basic weakness. If you only want to have a single basic weakness, you'll need to drop down to 12 xp total (9+3). :-)
If you're open to deck-building thoughts, I would recommend swapping out Deduction for Magnifying Glass for two of your five out of class cards. I'm not seeing a way for you to consistently get more than 4 from Duke on your Investigate checks. You have a good number of commits, you might be able to recur Winging It to significant effect, etc., and I think that getting some static boosts would likely go a long way to making finding clues easier.
