Intro
Jacqueline loves signing books! And she loves Magick! So much so that nobody can keep up with her pace, not even witches and cultists.
Hi everyone and welcome to this deck guide on a Sign Magick deck I made for the Campaign Playalong of The Circle Undone, using only cards from the (revised) core set, Investigator Starter Decks and (Return To) The Circle Undone. It was played alongside Big Hand Daisy, where Jacqueline was more of the fighter with some clue potential.
The Campaign Playalong is a community event hosted by the lovely Veronica over at the Mythos Busters Discord server. It is a fun way to try out decks and cards that you wouldn't otherwise by limiting the available collection for deckbuilding. And it is really fun to share your experiences with others who are playing through the same campaign at the same time. As per writing of this deck guide, a CPA for the Dunwich Legacy has just started, where you can pick the one cycle you limit yourself to for your decks, so feel free to join if you like the idea!
The general idea of this deck is to use Sign Magick to speed up Jacqueline's fighting potential and pick up some clues alongside fighting (no more using double Sixth Sense anymore unfortunately with the latest FAQ that was published some time after I played this deck). Huge credits to Chirubime for initially bringing up this idea through the Chaos Magick decklist listed as inspiration for this deck.
Level 0 deck
The level 0 deck can be found here. Jacqueline at this point deals with enemies using Azure Flame and Shrivelling.
Scroll of Secrets, Crystal Pendulum and Arcane Initiate help with draw to find the spells. Voice of Ra helps pay for everything and Prescient can recharge discarded spells if needed; both not surprisingly combine really well with Jacqueline's ability.
Token manipulation with Jacqueline's Ability, Dark Prophecy (for Azure Flame) and Eldritch Inspiration can help mitigate the bad consequences of the spells if needed (they are mostly there for the upgraded deck though).
Upgraded deck
The first priority is upgrading the spells. Wither and Sixth Sense are particularly useful in combination with token manipulation coming from Jacqueline's ability, Dark Prophecy and Eldritch Inspiration to make sure the effects hit more strongly and most consistently (eg Eldritch Inspiration on a Sixth Sense investigation when hitting a symbol means investigating simultaneously at 3 locations; using it on a Wither attack with a symbol kills a 3-health enemy outright or lowers health, evade and fight by 2 for your subsequent attacks the same turn).
Sign Magick, the titular card of the deck, allows Jacqueline to use 2 spells in one action (or even 3 spells in one action if she manages to get both copies out at the same time). This has been nerfed somewhat now with the latest FAQ as I mentioned, so it will primarily be useful to speed up fighting (e.g. Wither followed by Azure Flame followed by Wither again for 4 damage + 2 health reduction potentially killing a 6-health enemy in 1 action) or to follow up killing an enemy by an Investigate using Sixth Sense without spending the extra action for it; with two Sign Magick you can even do two investigates after the same fight spell (using the same window).
Four of Cups just rounds out the Standalone-ready deck as a solid boost that is always useful in Mystic.
