Focus on experience buys first so you can buy the cool stuff later:
- Charon's Obol;1xp
- Adaptable; 1xp (if you think you will change your mind about some level 0 cards)
Then buy the following combo pieces:
- Timeworn Brand for Fire Axe/Colt Vest Pocket; 5xp
- Will to Survive (3) for Will to Survive (0); 3xp
- Ace in the Hole; 6xp!
- Key of Ys for ?; 5xp
We want to eventually get rid of as many color assets as possible when deckbuilding to play around Crisis of Identity.
MULLIGAN:
- Backpack
- Mr. Rook
- Preposterous Sketches
- Emergency Cache/Voice of Ra
- Leo De Luca or Weapon
Strategy:
- Start out orange/seeker and draw combo pieces. Play Mr. Rook first until you use all his secrets. Play neutrals like backpack for a bigger hand and draw 3 and also Emergency Cache to start generating resources.
- Stay in green if you have Elusive; if there are a lot of enemies, you can swap to blue after Elusive and use Dynamite Blast assuming you have the resources.
- Stay in Red if you have Will to Survive (0) since you can guarantee an Evade or other action; track shoes is okay but is a tested evade. Also red will help you get cards back from discard.
- Swap to Black if you need resources or if you are at the end and need to play Delve too deep for experience.
- In blue you want to clear a location with Dynamite Blast, or gather resources from your party.
Combos:
- Timeworn Brand, 2*6 turns (red into green, WilltoSurvive (3) to Ace in the Hole), max 12 damage (4 mana) or 14 if exhausted for the last attack.
- Ultimate combo: a. Start in Red. Have Timeworn Brand in play (2 damage per attack). b. Play Will to Survive (3) [make attacks guaranteed] c. Commit Resourceful for a TB attack. (1/3 turns used) d. Put WtS (3) back in your hand. e. Swap to Green. Play Ace in the Hole, gain +3 turns (1/6 turns used) f. Commit 2 Quick Thinking for a TB attack (2/6 turns used), gain +turns (2/8 turns used) g. TB attack 6 more times for a total of 8*2 = 16 damage; you can exhause TB for an extra 2 damage if you want, but you only get to do that once per game.
As you get more experience, here are some options for better play: Survival stuff against treachery:
- Alter Fate (3) for ?; 3xp each
Make existing cards better:
- Preposterous Sketches (2), 2xp each
- Dynamite Blast (3); 3xp each
- Another WtS (3)
Versatile to include more cards:
- Versatile (first copy)
- Another Quantum Flux in case you lose your good cards or to protect against Beyond the Veil.
Increase Skill stats for harder fights:
- Charisma (first copy)
- 1 or 2 The Red-Gloved Man; play before Ultimate Combo
More combos:
- True Survivor (3) to get Quick Thinkings back from discard
- Eidetic Memory (3) for more Improvisation
Anna Kaslow 3 tarot build for boosted stats:
- Charisma (second copy)
- Anna Kaslow
- 2x Ace of Rods
- 2x Ace of Swords (or whatever skill stat you are lacking)
Better Backpack for card draw:
- Backpack (2)
Better encounter protection:
- Purifying Corruption
Can't add anymore cards? Buy permanents:
- Keen Eye, Scrapper, etc.
- Another Day, Another Dollar or Studious - Check the rules on these
And whatever else is in my Side Deck. I wanted to try Feed the Mind/Higher Education with WtS combo for a lot of card draw, but it felt expensive.
Aquinnah (3) and Delilah O'Rourke look fun for testless damage.
